A training matrix is not evidence of competence

It is evidence of attendance. CQC expects you to show that staff are trained, competent, supervised and able to deliver care safely — and those are four different things.

Most training systems track completion

Somebody did the course, the box is green, the matrix is full. Then an inspector asks how you know a particular member of staff can actually do the thing, and there is no answer that is not an opinion.

Competence has to be observed, recorded and reviewed. Supervision has to connect to it.

And the whole thing has to reflect your service model and your risk profile — a training framework built for a residential home does not fit a complex care service, and using one for the other is visible immediately.

Green matrix, and incidents that say otherwise?

Then the matrix is measuring the wrong thing. That is the gap this work closes.

Ask us about it

What it is

A framework designed around your risk, not around a course catalogue.

Designed around your risk

What your staff actually need to be competent at, in your service, with the people you support.

Competence, not completion

How it gets observed, by whom, how often, and where it is recorded.

Connected to supervision and governance

So the evidence exists before anyone asks for it.

What it covers, and what it does not

We design and audit the framework. We do not deliver the training. That is a deliberate boundary and we have no plans to change it.

Where you need a training provider, we will tell you what to look for and what to avoid. Advice about which training to buy is worth more from someone who does not sell it.

Fees are quoted before any work starts. Nothing on this page is an offer.

Who it is for

Providers with a training finding

From an inspection, where the matrix was not the answer.

Services that have grown

Past the point where the manager knew everyone's capability personally.

Complex care services

Where competence is clinical and the stakes are higher.

Send us the matrix and the last three months of incidents.

Thirty minutes, no charge. Those two documents together usually show the gap without anyone having to describe it.

The matrix and an incident summary is enough to start.
