Supported Living Registration
CQC registration for supported living services providing personal care to people in their own tenancies. The model has to be right before the application can be.
How we get you registered
Scope and plan. We confirm your service model, client group and timeline, then agree the scope of work before anything starts.
Build the application. We draft your applications, statement of purpose and supporting evidence, and get them ready to submit.
Submit and support. We support you through submission, the assessment, and the questions CQC asks along the way.
Is it supported living, or a care home?
If the housing and the care are not genuinely separate, CQC may treat it as a care home. Worth settling first.
Settle it in four questionsFree · No email address
Supported living, extra care, Shared Lives — or a care home?
Four models that are constantly confused with each other, and registered differently. The tool does not ask what you would call the service. It asks where people live, who holds the tenancy and what the care is, because that is what CQC reads the model for. At most four questions. One answer is “settle the tenancies first”, and that is the honest one.

What to put on the desk
General information about CQC registration in England, indicative only and based on what you have told us. It is not legal advice and it does not create any relationship between us. How CQC reads housing-and-care arrangements moves; this logic is current at 7 September 2026. If your model sits anywhere near a line, ring us rather than relying on this page.
What is included
CQC · personal care in people’s own tenancies.
Provider and registered manager applications
Prepared together and written around a supported living model rather than a domiciliary one.
The personal care regulated activity
Registered for the care, not the housing. The distinction matters and it is the first thing we establish.
Tenancy and separation of care evidence
The evidence that housing and care are genuinely separate. This is what decides supported living applications and it is where most of them come unstuck.
Statement of purpose
Reflecting how support is actually delivered across tenancies, hours and shared settings.
Policies and evidence
Mapped to the CQC fundamental standards, applied to a tenancy-based service.
Interview preparation
The fit person interview for you and your manager. Interview preparation.
Before you commit
Supported living is attractive because the housing is funded separately from the care. That is also the source of most of its regulatory risk: if the two are too closely tied, the model can be re-characterised, and that changes everything about how you are registered and inspected.
Get the tenancy arrangements looked at by somebody who knows what CQC reads them for, before the first person moves in.
Fees are quoted before any work starts. Nothing on this page is an offer.
Describe the housing and the care separately.
If you can do that easily, you are probably in good shape. If you cannot, that is the conversation to have. Thirty minutes, no charge.
