Reducing restriction, and being able to show it
This is among the most closely scrutinised areas in the sector, by CQC and by safeguarding authorities. What is expected is oversight, proportionality and active reduction — evidenced, not asserted.
Positive Behaviour Support does not work as a document
It has to be embedded in the governance, the staffing model, how incidents get reviewed, and what leadership actually looks at.
Where it is not, restriction tends to persist quietly and get justified retrospectively.
And the reduction strategies that look best on paper are often the ones that move the risk somewhere else rather than reducing it — which is visible to anyone who reads the incident record properly.
Already in a safeguarding process?
Say so when you ring. It changes what can usefully be done, and how fast it has to happen.
Ring us about itWhat it is
Governance first, because that is where reduction either happens or does not.
Starts with what is actually happening
A structured review of current restrictive practice, behaviour support systems and incident history.
Built into governance
Oversight that produces evidence as a by-product rather than as a separate reporting exercise.
Honest about reduction
Restriction that has moved is not restriction that has reduced, and we will not write it up as though it were.
What it covers, and what it does not
We build the framework and the governance around it.
We are not a clinical PBS provider and we do not write individual behaviour support plans. Where you need a practitioner, that work sits alongside this rather than inside it, and we will tell you what to look for.
Fees are quoted before any work starts. Nothing on this page is an offer.
Who it is for
Learning disability and autism services
Residential or supported living.
Providers with restrictive practice findings
From an inspection or a safeguarding process.
Services scaling up
Who want the governance right before the volume grows.
Tell us what the incident record actually says.
Thirty minutes, no charge. If you are mid-process with a safeguarding team, say so when you ring and we will work to that timescale.
